Most important research results
Many of Gesa Weyhenmeyer's research highlights have been created in a collaborative effort where focus was on the establishment of a new research direction towards global limnology. The new research direction resulted in a movement of scientific theory from viewing lakes as passive pipes to considering them as active transformers in the Earth's climate system. Among the first author papers, the following comprise some pioneering results on climate responses and feedbacks of Earth's lake ecosystems:
The following papers can be considered as examples of key publications in the field of global limnology. Weyhenmeyer's engagement in global limnology began with two overview papers which were prepared during a workshop and continued with a strong engagement in global physical lake processes (ice and water temperature) and global chemical lake processes (carbon, iron, calcium, oxygen, pollutants).
